Why I Created Splat Art Club
For nearly 20 years, I had the joy of teaching art at Splat Art Studio. I watched thousands of kids and adults walk through the doors, pick up a paintbrush and discover something I’ve always believed, making art is about so much more than the finished piece.
It’s about slowing down. Playing with color. Trying something new. Getting a little messy. And giving yourself permission to create without worrying about getting it “right.”
Somewhere along the way, especially as adults, we can lose that freedom. We start thinking we need to be artistic or talented before we’re allowed to make something. But I’ve seen again and again that when the pressure comes off, something wonderful happens. People relax. They experiment. They laugh. They surprise themselves.
That’s why I created Splat Art Club, to bring that same joyful, encouraging experience online and give you a place to create at your own pace, right from home.
The classes are approachable, step-by-step and designed to help you loosen up, embrace the wonky and enjoy the process. You don’t need fancy supplies or years of experience. You just need a little time, a willingness to play and permission to make something simply because it feels good.
Because making art doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Hi, I'm Kate.
I’m an artist, teacher and big believer that creativity should feel joyful, not intimidating.
I’ve always loved what happens when people give themselves permission to create. There’s something pretty wonderful about picking up a brush, playing with color and realizing you don’t have to know exactly what you’re doing to make something you love.
My teaching style is relaxed, encouraging and perfectly imperfect. I’ll guide you step by step, share my favorite tips and techniques, and probably remind you more than once to stop overthinking it. There’s plenty of room to make it your own.
Around here, we celebrate the wonky, experiment with color, turn up the music and try not to take ourselves, or our art, too seriously. Mistakes are part of the process, and sometimes they end up being the best part.
Whether you haven’t painted since you were a kid or you already love making art, I hope Splat Art Club gives you a place to slow down, play and enjoy being creative.
